Book Club Friday

Love me some book club Friday!!
I have a goal to read 50 books this year & I am really hoping to stick to it.
I didn't meet my goal last year, but considering I started in August, I think it was an unfair advantage.

"Mindy Kaling has lived many lives: the obedient child of immigrant professionals, a timid chubster afraid of her own bike, a Ben Affleck–impersonating Off-Broadway performer and playwright, and, finally, a comedy writer and actress prone to starting fights with her friends and coworkers with the sentence “Can I just say one last thing about this, and then I swear I’ll shut up about it?”

Perhaps you want to know what Mindy thinks makes a great best friend (someone who will fill your prescription in the middle of the night), or what makes a great guy (one who is aware of all elderly people in any room at any time and acts accordingly), or what is the perfect amount of fame (so famous you can never get convicted of murder in a court of law), or how to maintain a trim figure (you will not find that information in these pages). If so, you’ve come to the right book, mostly!

In Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?, Mindy invites readers on a tour of her life and her unscientific observations on romance, friendship, and Hollywood, with several conveniently placed stopping points for you to run errands and make phone calls. Mindy Kaling really is just a Girl Next Door—not so much literally anywhere in the continental United States, but definitely if you live in India or Sri Lanka." -Source

I love Mindy! I am not the biggest fan of the office, but when I have watched it I crack up. I LOVEEEEE her on the Mindy Project and when I read this book I read it in her voice the entire time. I really liked this book. It had me laughing a lot, and I think that it says a lot for the fact that the entire book made me think of her voice as she was writing it. It kept me quite entertained!!

I am starting with the books I have read beginning from the first f the year, although I am already a bit behind.
I track the books I read on goodreads
Add me if you have an account :)

This week I am reviewing.

Two For the Dough

"Bounty hunter Stephanie Pum is still learning the ropes at her cousin Vinnie's bail bond office, so when she sets out on the trail of Kenny Mancuso - a suspiciously weatlhy, working class Trenton boy who has just shot his best friend - the stakes are higher than ever. That Mancuso is distantly related to vice cop Joe Morelli - who is trying to beat Stephanie to the punch - only makes the hunt more thrilling...

Taking pointers from her bounty hunter pal, Ranger, and using her pistol packing Grandma Mazur as a decoy, Stephanie is soon closing in on her mark. But Morelli and his libido are worthy foes. And a more sinister kind of enemy has made his first move... and his next move might be Stephanie's last" -Source

Review:
This is the second book in the Stephanie Plum Series. The first one being One For The Money which was made into a movie staring Katherine Heigl.
I really am into the Stephanie Plum series right now. I love the humor and thrilling parts. I am rooting for the main characters to get together as always, and am curious when it will happen, seeing as their are 20 books in this series so far!
I gave this book a five because I just loved it!!

This weeks:

Flat-Out Matt (Flat-Out Love, #1.5)

Flat-Out Matt (Flat-Out Love #1.5)

Matt is a junior at MIT. He’s geeky, he's witty, he's brilliant.

And he’s also very, very stupid.

When beautiful, cool, insightful Julie moves in with Matt’s family, why (oh why!) does he pretend to be his absent brother Finn for her alleged benefit?

It seems harmless enough until her short-term stay becomes permanent. And until it snowballs into heart-squeezing insanity. And until he falls in love with Julie, and Julie falls in love with Finn.

But … Matt is the right one for her. If only he can make Julie see it. Without telling her the truth, without shattering them all. Particularly his fragile sister Celeste, who may need Julie the most.

You saw Matt through Julie’s eyes in FLAT-OUT LOVE. Now go deeper into Matt’s world in this FLAT-OUT MATT novella. Live his side of the story, break when his heart breaks, and fall for the unlikely hero all over again.

Take an emotional skydive for two prequel chapters and seven Flat-Out Love chapters retold from his perspective, and then land with a brand-new steamy finale chapter from Julie

Last time I talked about Flat out Love & This week Flat Out Matt
I loved this book almost as much as I loved Flat Out Love.
This book is not a "full" book. Its like certain chapters of the first one from Matt's point of view. But still its amazing and its fun to see the different point of view. Similar to Walking Disaster, but not a full book.
Lovee, 5 stars. Def. read :)

Book Club Friday

Haven't done a book club Friday in quite some time.
But now that I have passed my licensure exam and don't have to study,
have gotten into a better mommy & baby routine & am able to get more done I have more time to read.
I have been on a blogging kick these past few days and have read quite a few books.

This weeks book is:
Flat-Out Love (Flat-Out Love, #1)

Flat-Out Love (Flat-Out Love #1)

He was tall, at least six feet, with dirty blond hair that hung over his eyes. His T-shirt read Nietzsche Is My Homeboy.

So, that was Matt. Who Julie Seagle likes. A lot. But there is also Finn. Who she flat out loves.

Complicated? Awkward? Completely.

But really, how was this freshly-minted Boston transplant and newbie college freshman supposed to know that she would end up living with the family of an old friend of her mother's? This was all supposed to be temporary. Julie wasn't supposed to be important to the Watkins family, or to fall in love with one of the brothers. Especially the one she's never quite met. But what does that really matter? Finn gets her, like no one ever has before. They have connection.

But here's the thing about love, in all its twisty, bumpy permutations—it always throws you a few curves. And no one ever escapes unscathed.

absolutley loved this book. From the second I began reading it I couldn't put it down. I loved its twists, the love story and everything about it. I loved its nerdy references and was terribly sad when it ended!! Such a good book!

This weeks book is:

A couple weeks ago Heather at BlondeUndercoverBlonde posted about this book & talked about the second book, so I had to re-read the first book before heading to the hospital!!

Synopsis:
"Abby Abernathy is a good girl. She doesn’t drink or swear, and she has the appropriate number of cardigans in her wardrobe. Abby believes she has enough distance from the darkness of her past, but when she arrives at college with her best friend, her path to a new beginning is quickly challenged by Eastern University’s Walking One-Night Stand.

Travis Maddox, lean, cut, and covered in tattoos, is exactly what Abby wants—and needs—to avoid. He spends his nights winning money in a floating fight ring, and his days as the ultimate college campus charmer. Intrigued by Abby’s resistance to his appeal, Travis tricks her into his daily life with a simple bet. If he loses, he must remain abstinent for a month. If Abby loses, she must live in Travis’s apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, Travis has no idea that he has met his match.
 "

My Review:
I was obsessed with this book when I first read it and I am again obsessed with it the second time!! It is one of those books that I just can't wait to get home and read. One that keeps me turning the page waiting to find out what happens next!!
I can not wait to read the next & probably am as we speak!

Back of the Book:
"The world is changing: the government has seized control of every aspect of society, and now, kids are disappearing. For 15-year-old Wisty and her older brother Whit, life turns upside down when they are torn from their parents one night and slammed into a secret prison for no reason they can comprehend. The New Order, as it is known, is clearly trying to suppress Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Being a Normal Teenager. But while trapped in this totalitarian nightmare, Wisty and Whit discover they have incredible powers they'd never dreamed of. Can this newly minted witch and wizard master their skills in time to save themselves, their parents--and maybe the world?"

Review:
This was a very easy read. I had been hearing really good things about it and wanted to read it for sometime!! Like I said its quite a simple read. Its well written, interesting and a page turner. I think it would be classified as young adult, but still entertaining." Fits into the world we are all obsessed with i.e.) the fantasy wizard, vampire, werewolf loving world. Another book that I really didn't have to think much, but not so dull that I couldn't get through it.
I would recommend.

This was an easy read and such a good book.
It was one of those books that made you wish so badly that I could be back in NYC and run into all the celebrities that I did.
Now I never actually got to talk to any really.
But I did get to see a lot and dream of having their babies or be their best friends!
I got through this book in like 3 days!
I give it an 9/10!

This weeks book is:
Synopsis:
"Emmy is newly single, and not by choice. She was this close to the ring and the baby she’s wanted her whole life when her boyfriend left her for his twenty-three-year-old personal trainer—whose fees are paid by Emmy.
Leigh, a young star in the publishing business, is within striking distance of landing her dream job as senior editor and marrying her dream guy. And to top it all off, she has just purchased her dream apartment. Only when Leigh begins to edit the enfant terrible of
the literary world, the brilliant and brooding Jesse Chapman, does she start to notice some cracks in her perfect life…
Adriana is the drop-dead gorgeous daughter of a famous supermodel. She possesses the kind of feminine wiles made only in Brazil, and she never hesitates to use them. But she’s about to turn thirty and—as her mother keeps reminding her—she won’t have her pick of men forever. Everyone knows beauty is ephemeral and there’s always someone younger and prettier right around the corner. Suddenly she’s wondering…does Mother know best?
These three very different girls have been best friends for a decade in the greatest city on earth. As they
near thirty, they’re looking toward their future….but despite all they’ve earned—first class travel, career promotions, invites to all the right parties, and luxuries small and large—they’re not quite sure they like what they see…
One Saturday night at the Waverly Inn, Adriana and Emmy make a pact: within a single year, each will drastically change her life. Leigh watches from the sidelines, not making any promises, but she’ll soon discover she has the most to lose. Their friendship is forever, but everything else is on the table. Three best friends. Two resolutions. One year to pull it off." Source

Thoughts:

I thought this book was pretty good. Similar to the more well known the Devil Wears Prada. This one was more of a gossipy feel to it. A very easy read. Something I would bring to the beach or to take a bath. Not bad thought.
I would give it a 7/10

Also I am linking up with Tara at Fabulous but Evil for :

This week I tried to do a 4th of July Inspired nail on something I saw on Pinterest.

Mine didn't turn out as cool, but hey it was the first try.

So it was suppose to be Splatter nails.
Which you do by dipping a straw into nail polish and blowing it on your nails.
It turned out pretty cool, however, not like it was suppose to.
I have heard a rumor that if you use coffee stirs straws it will come out better.
I will try that next!!

Colors used:
Sephora: (white) A-Ha! Moment
Sinful colors: (Red) Satin Shoes
China Glaze: (Blue) Shower Together!!

The unworldly, innocent Ana is startled to realize she wants this man and, despite his enigmatic reserve, finds she is desperate to get close to him. Unable to resist Ana’s quiet beauty, wit, and independent spirit, Grey admits he wants her, too—but on his own terms.
Shocked yet thrilled by Grey’s singular erotic tastes, Ana hesitates. For all the trappings of success—his multinational businesses, his vast wealth, his loving family—Grey is a man tormented by demons and consumed by the need to control. When the couple embarks on a daring, passionately physical affair, Ana discovers Christian Grey’s secrets and explores her own dark desires.Erotic, amusing, and deeply moving, the Fifty Shades Trilogy is a tale that will obsess you, possess you, and stay with you forever." 50 Shades of Darker by E.L. James

Christian Grey, Anastasia Steele has broken off their relationship to start a new career with a Seattle publishing house.  But desire for Christian still dominates her every waking thought, and when he proposes a new arrangement, Anastasia cannot resist. They rekindle their searing sensual affair, and Anastasia learns more about the harrowing past of her damaged, driven and demanding Fifty Shades.
While Christian wrestles with his inner demons, Anastasia must confront the anger and envy of the women who came before her, and make the most important decision of her life." Source

50 Shades of Freed by E.L. James

"When unworldly student Anastasia Steele first encountered the driven and dazzling young entrepreneur Christian Grey it sparked a sensual affair that changed both of their lives irrevocably. Shocked, intrigued, and, ultimately, repelled by Christian’s singular erotic tastes, Ana demands a deeper commitment. Determined to keep her, Christian agrees.
Now, Ana and Christian have it all—love, passion, intimacy, wealth, and a world of possibilities for their future. But Ana knows that loving her Fifty Shades will not be easy, and that being together will pose challenges that neither of them would anticipate. Ana must somehow learn to share Christian’s opulent lifestyle without sacrificing her own identity. And Christian must overcome his compulsion to control as he wrestles with the demons of a tormented past.
Just when it seems that their strength together will eclipse any obstacle, misfortune, malice, and fate conspire to make Ana’s deepest fears turn to reality." Source

Now, I know ALOT of women disagree, but a lot of women agree.
But I LOVED this book.
So the plot is a weak, the writing is not the best & its quite repetitive.
Shit was sexy as hell!!!
I couldn't stop reading any of them.
I constantly dreamed of Christian Grey while reading it & can not wait for the movie.
Most likely going to cause a baby boom!!
I love, I give 10/10, love love love, couldn't stop reading!

Ohh, I have read a TON of books since I last posted due to the waiting for planes, sitting on the beach and trying to relax!

Today i am going to post about:

"Something Borrowed tells the story of Rachel, a young attorney living and working in Manhattan. Rachel has always been the consummate good girl---until her thirtieth birthday, when her best friend, Darcy, throws her a party. That night, after too many drinks, Rachel ends up in bed with Darcy's fiancé.
Although she wakes up determined to put the one-night fling behind her, Rachel is horrified to discover that she has genuine feelings for the one guy she should run from. As the September wedding date nears, Rachel knows she has to make a choice. In doing so, she discovers that the lines between right and wrong can be blurry, endings aren't always neat, and sometimes you have to risk all to win true happiness."
 Taken from EmilyGriffin.com

I had already seen the movie to this book, but decided to read the book, before I read the next book Something Blue.
It was pretty good, just like the movie. However, watching the movie before reading the book really does ruin it for me. I much rather read the book before the movie.
Overall I give it a 7/10.
Pretty entertaining, a good beach read!

Book Club Friday x 3!!

Yay!! Book Club Friday!!!
One of my favorite things to blog about.
What do you do?
Grab the button and then link up here!!

It's been a while since I have posted but, I have three books to post about!!
I am well aware that I say this every time, but these were my FAV books aside from Harry Potter, these even beat twilight for me!!
I read each in only 11 hours each.
"Could you survive on your own, in the wild, with everyone out to make sure you don't live to see the morning?
In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV. Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she is forced to represent her district in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before-and survival"
(All info taken from here)

SPOILER IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THE FIRST ONE & DON'T WANT TO KNOW WHATS ON THE BACK OF THE BOOKS OF TWO & THREE!!!

"Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen has won the annual Hunger Games with fellow district tribute Peeta Mellark. But it was a victory won by defiance of the Capitol and their harsh rules. Katniss and Peeta should be happy. After all, they have just won for themselves and their families a life of safety and plenty. But there are rumors of rebellion among the subjects, and Katniss and Peeta, to their horror, are the faces of that rebellion. The Capitol is angry. The Capitol wants revenge."

"The Capitol is angry. The Capitol wants revenge.
Who do they think should pay for the unrest?
Katniss Everdeen."

I don't have much to say other than these book were absolutley amazing. Each one had me on my seat in anticipation. I could not put them down and could not wait to get my hands on the next one!! Exciting, sad, happy, love. Everything you can get. Even my fiance liked them and is almost finished with the first one!! (He never reads)
I HIGHLY highly highgly recommend all three!!!

Love love love!!
