Newborn Essentials

Wow, over two weeks have gone by since I had my little man!
TWO WEEKS!
Actually 15 days to be precise.
While he sleeps in his rocker right now I decided to put together a little list of everything that has been a life save for us!!

1. Aden + Anais SwaddlePlus Wraps: I purchased these after getting NO receiving blankets or anything from my shower & heard a lot of good things about them online & lord am I happy that I did. They are perfect to swaddle the little man in, and also perfect to use as a light blanket in the carseat or stroller!! They are a bit expensive {$34.99} but totally worth it for us, as our baby doesn't sleep well if he is not swaddled.

2. Angel Care Monitor: So I am "that mom" who is completely paranoid and way too nervous to be letting my baby sleep with no sort of reassurance that he is okay. This was a recommendation from a fellow blogger (Becky at from Mrs. to Mama). The blue pad sits under neat the mattress and will detect if you baby stops moving/breathing for more than 20 seconds. It detects the SLIGHTEST movements. I'm talking put my finger on the wooden part of his crib and it detected it, so false alarms should be super scarce! As of right now he only uses his cribs for napping, but this is still an everyday need.

3. Snuza: This too was a recommendation from Becky at from Mrs. to Mama. It is a small, and I am talking quite tiny device that you clip on your babies diaper and it measures the breath movements of baby. If baby stops breathing for more than 15 seconds it gently vibrates to try and get them to move/breathe. If nothing for 5 more seconds it alarms. This we use currently as he sleeps in his pack and play.

4.  Medela Pump In Style Advanced Breastpump: Ugh, 10 weeks from today I have to go back to work. Woof. This means that in 10 weeks, daddy will be home with the little man all day and he will need some food to eat. Therefore I pump on a daily basis. One this is to increase my supply and two, this is get daddy ready for feeding the baby while I am away. I love this pump. It a cute bag, easy to use and has the storages spots so when I go back to work I don't have to worry about the milk going bad.

5.  Graco Pack 'n Play with Cuddle Cove LX Rocking Seat Play Yard: This wonderful invention is sitting in our room next to our bed. This is wear little man sleeps. Mostly in the pack and play overnight, but in the rocking seat while we are nursing. The changer (although slightly e left) is nice so we don't have to get up to change him in his room.

6. Medela Tender Care Lanolin Gel: I call in a gel because its not a cream. Breasfeeding momma's.... At first nursing hurts!!! I am not sure I would have gotten by if I hadn't loaded up on these while in the hospital. It makes them much less enflamed and easier at the next feeding!!

So these are my newborn essentials. Not much too it currently, as 98% of the time he is eating, sleeping, or pooping.

Guest Post: Joey from Hogespodges!

Hey y'all!  I'm Joey!
You can normally find me talking nonsense over at Hodgespodges.
Rorie has been kind enough to let me baby sit her blog for the day
while's she's handling the whole "bringing a human into the world" situation.

So I thought I'd take this chance to share a little about myself.
And sometimes, the best way to do that is with funnies.
Because otherwise things could get very boring very fast.  So here goes.

I am slightly hyperactive.  My poor, poor husband.

I don't do bugs.
ESPECIALLY spiders.
I've had a few encounters in the past when I've strongly considered doing the following.
via

Story of my life is I am painfully shy.
I have no idea how this is even possible because I love making new friends.
The first few encounters go a little like this though:
via

I picked my major in college based on the amount of math I didn't have to take.
Oh, what.  Does that seem a little extreme?
THIS is how I see math.
Always.
Sigh.
via

The truth about me exercising.
via

I am a football coach's wife.
And there is no truer statement than the following:

It was nice to "meet" you all.
I hope you had a giggle or two.

And Rorie--congratulations on your sweet little boy!  Wishing you all the happiness in the world!

This weeks book is:

A couple weeks ago Heather at BlondeUndercoverBlonde posted about this book & talked about the second book, so I had to re-read the first book before heading to the hospital!!

Synopsis:
"Abby Abernathy is a good girl. She doesn’t drink or swear, and she has the appropriate number of cardigans in her wardrobe. Abby believes she has enough distance from the darkness of her past, but when she arrives at college with her best friend, her path to a new beginning is quickly challenged by Eastern University’s Walking One-Night Stand.

Travis Maddox, lean, cut, and covered in tattoos, is exactly what Abby wants—and needs—to avoid. He spends his nights winning money in a floating fight ring, and his days as the ultimate college campus charmer. Intrigued by Abby’s resistance to his appeal, Travis tricks her into his daily life with a simple bet. If he loses, he must remain abstinent for a month. If Abby loses, she must live in Travis’s apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, Travis has no idea that he has met his match.
 "

My Review:
I was obsessed with this book when I first read it and I am again obsessed with it the second time!! It is one of those books that I just can't wait to get home and read. One that keeps me turning the page waiting to find out what happens next!!
I can not wait to read the next & probably am as we speak!

Chubby Cheeks

May 13th!!
Today is my last day of work.
I decided to work on a Monday so when I get back from maternity leave I start on a Tuesday and the work week doesn't seem AS long.
4 days is better than 5 for sure :)
Little man will be here in {3 days}
Pending he doesn't come any sooner
{crossing fingers he does}

If you don't follow me on twitter

Then you missed out on this little Chubby Cheeked Amazingness!!
Our 38 weeks ultrasound went awesome.
He was covering his face through most of it, but he got the hiccups at the end & finally moved them.
{Although his hand his just under his chin in this picture!!}
Ultrasound tech predicts that he weighs about 9lbs 2oz!!!!!!
Now that can be a lb up or a lb down.
So we are talking could be 8lbs 2oz {yes please!!} or 10lbs 2oz {Not ideal}
Either way, I think the doctor will probably tell us today that we are looking at a c-section due to his size, as I am pretty tiny and lack child bearing hips.
Either way, however he gets here natural or c-section.
As long as I hear that little adorable cry (or that he is okay) I will be happy.
I can't wait to hold him in my arms and pinch those adorable Chubby Cheeks!!

38 Week Baby Bump Update

38 Weeks.
This time next week, I will have my little love bug in my arms.
In just 7 days my family will expand from 2 to 3.
I am crazy happy!!

Weight gain: Continues to hover around 17lbs. I assume this will be all we gain.

Blood Pressure: Sometimes are a little high as in 138/82, yet other times they are perfect 117/60.

Food aversions: None
Morning sickness: None
Appetite : Back to normal and wanting to eat everything!!

Cravings: Continues to crave mostly sweets.

Blood Sugars: I have given up on the free lunches due to not wanting baby to have to be supplemented once he is born, so they are hovering around normal. A couple have been low for some reason, for no reason.

Clothes: Leggings, sweats and maternity pants. Maternity shirts are getting small.

Headaches: None
Sleeping: Actually hasn't been bad this week although I continue to have to wake up and pee 3 times a night.

Stretchmarks: Yes, sadly just around the belly button.

Bellybutton: So outtie it makes me laugh!

Wedding Rings: Off. fingers a bit swollen, or maybe just fat.

Backaches: Very occasional.
Heart Burn: Not much.

Energy and Motivation:  Slightly more tired lately.

Emotions: Anxious, ready to be done, happy, excited!

Movements: I track every morning and night. You are suppose to get 10 movements in an hour. I have been still getting 10 movements in a matter of minutes.
Contractions: A few braxton hicks here & there. Nothing too intense.

GenderBoy!
Name: Greyson :)

Missing Anything?: Food, not feeling guilty for eating food. Bending over and picking things up, pants that zipper. The usual I am sure.

Updates:
  • Doctor pretty much said we are good to go if we go into labor on our own. So we have been doing ALOT of walking. Can't hurt right!?
  • Lots of pressure down low.
  • Baby kicked butt at his last NST :)
  • Momma is nesting :)
  • I am personally hoping to naturally go into labor. If I have to have a c-section that is fine, but I would like to at least feel natural labor before that has to happen.
Next Appointment:
We have two appointments today, an ultrasound this morning (which I will probably be in as this is being posted) and a NST tonight at 8pm.
Next OB appt will be on Monday which we will find out if we need to have a c-section or if we are being induced.

May Goals

With the little one almost here
{just 10 days away!}
I decided it would be smart to set some goals for myself to hopefully keep on track of at least some things while taking care of a new born.
This is my last week of work & I have 12 weeks of this summer to get things done!!

1. Organize hall closet.
Our hall closest has a bunch of junk in it from paint cans, to snow boarding tools, to xmas decorations to sleeping bags. It makes me bad just thinking about it.

2. Lose at least 15lbs of the baby weight.
I think this is completely do able since i Have a huge baby and have gained hardly any weight.

3. Work out 2x a week.
With wanting to lose most of my baby weight in only 15 days mind you, I want to work out at least 2x a week. Bc I will be recovering from labor and or c section, I am talking simple things including walking, lifting small arm weights etc.

4. Study for my licensure exam, at least 4 days a week.
I have procrastinating this and have to take the exam at the end of June.
I NEED to study.
There is no reason why I can't since I am home all day.

5. Keep the romance up in my marriage.
I do not want to be one of those couples that loses the romance when we have the baby.
This is quite important to me!

6. Lastly, keep up with the house work.
If I go to sleep with a messy house, I wake up cranky.

I am setting the bar pretty high for myself, but I think I can do it!
Crosses Fingers.

37 Week Baby Bump Update!!

37 weeks!
2 more weeks.
I am in shock.
How can we be down to just 14 more days!!
Ps. I meant labor inducing advice, but it was 530 am when I made & and pregnancy brain got the best of me!

Weight gain: At around 17.5 lbs this weeks. Went up a little. Doctor is pleased which makes me happy.

Blood Pressure: As far as I know, its been good. Haven't had any other checks recently.

Food aversions: None
Morning sickness: None
Appetite : Back to normal and wanting to eat everything!!
Cravings: Food in general? I want to eat tons of ice creams, and cookies, cereals, pasta, breads & easy mac. So I guess pretty much everything that I can't have.

Blood Sugars: Noticed have been overall a little lower. I am trying to cut my lunches down some now that we are getting close. Lunches are still the only time they are high and this was because I was told I needed to break the diet to try and gain weight.

Clothes: Leggings, sweats and maternity pants. Most shirts barley cover the bump now.

Headaches: None
Sleeping: WOOF!! This is one that changed in the last week. I diagnosed myself with pregnancy induced carpel tunnel, as I was waking up in the middle of the night with numb achey hands. So then I read propping yourself can help, and then I got two leg cramps!! Now I pee 3-4 times a night. So sleep as eluded me!
Stretchmarks: Just right at my belly button piercing :( It makes me sad, but whatever!

Bellybutton: So outtie it makes me laugh!

Wedding Rings: Still off. Just because the fat knuckles. They still don't look swollen. Maybe the weight gain?

Backaches: Very occasional.
Heart Burn: A little more at times.

Energy and Motivation: Normal, but getting sleepier soon
Emotions: Anxious, ready to be done, happy, excited!

Movements: I track every morning and night. You are suppose to get 10 movements in an hour. I have been still getting 10 movements in a matter of minutes.
Contractions: A few braxton hicks here & there. Nothing too intense.

GenderBoy!
Name: Greyson :)

Missing Anything?: Food, not feeling guilty for eating food. Bending over and picking things up, pants that zipper. The usual I am sure.

Updates:
  • We finished our birthing classes, I only went to 3/5 due to them being a good hike away from where we live and not wanting to go into labor on the road, alone.
  • NST looks amazing for baby, but does show I am having contractions. (Hoping this means maybe I will go into natural labor before our c-section!)
Next Appointment:
Next week.
