Guest Post: Megan from Mackey Madness!!!

Heeeey y'all! My name is Megan and I blog my little heart out over at Mackey Madness!

Rorie is an absolute doll and I am thrilled to be taking over her blog today!

I thought I would share some tips on interviewing for a job, in honor of Rorie landing her amazing job! We all want to nail it like her and get the job, right? Read on for some tips.

1) Arrive early.

Don't just arrive "on time." Plan to be there EARLY to make a good impression. Give yourself extra time for things such as getting lost, parking, etc.

2) Dress professional, but comfortable.

For all interviews, you should wear professional attire and avoid crazy patterns, colors, and jewelry. Even though we may think something is stylish, your interviewer may not. Be sure to wear something that you are comfortable in, though...something that is YOU, something that makes you feel good.

This would be a NO for a job interview, but a perfect YES for a day at work...once you have the job!

3) Be prepared to brag about yourself.

It's basically the one occasion where it's OKAY to brag about yourself and all of your accomplishments. It's more than okay, it's required!! Your potential employer wants to know why he/she should hire you above everyone else...and you have to tell them why!!

4) Never ever say you don't have a weakness.

It's that awkward question that the interviewer asks, "What would you say your weaknesses are?" No one wants to say something bad about themselves that could possibly jeopardize the interview, but you definitely don't want to say, "I don't have any." Yeah, right. That's just guaranteeing that you won't get the job. Think about things ahead of time so that you have a good answer for this question. Say your weakness, then say things that you have done to counteract it or to improve upon it. For example: "My weakness is that I get really focused on one project until completion and it's hard for me to switch to another project, but I try to set certain times to work on certain projects, so that's definitely helped me." See, you told a weakness, but made yourself sound good in the meantime! Perfection! You're hired! : )

5) Research the company.

People almost always ask, "Why do you want to work here?" It looks SO good if you know something about the company, their goals, their mission, etc. Show them that you really want to work for them for a reason, not just for a paycheck. They will be impressed!

6) Make eye contact when talking.

Oh, how this is of major importance! No one wants to hire the person who looks at the floor when answering questions. This is not an option, this is a MUST to get the job. Just do it.

Anyone else have any tips?? I'd love to hear them!

Thanks for having me, Rorie! And congrats again on landing that job!! : )
